Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially announced the launch of its European Sovereign Cloud initiative, designed to address data residency and regulatory requirements for public sector and highly regulated industries in Europe.

The new AWS European Sovereign Cloud will be physically and logically separate from existing AWS Regions, with infrastructure located within the European Union and operated by EU-resident AWS employees.

This initiative aims to provide customers with greater control over data residency, operational autonomy, and compliance with evolving European regulations. The first AWS European Sovereign Cloud Region will be located in Germany, with plans for further expansion.
