Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has initiated a pilot program in collaboration with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Vision-Box to test biometric boarding for select international flights. The trial enables passengers to board using facial recognition technology, eliminating the need to present boarding passes or passports at the gate.

The biometric system captures a passenger’s facial image at a dedicated registration kiosk, securely linking it to their travel documents. During boarding, cameras at the gate verify the passenger’s identity, streamlining the process and reducing wait times.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts across Europe to enhance airport efficiency and passenger experience while maintaining compliance with privacy and data protection regulations. The pilot will run for several months, with results informing potential wider adoption at Schiphol and other European airports.
