Nokia and Finnish telecom operator Elisa have successfully completed a field trial of 800Gbps optical transmission over a single wavelength on Elisa’s live fiber network. The trial, conducted in May 2024, utilized Nokia’s latest PSE-6s coherent optics technology to achieve high-capacity data transmission between Helsinki and Tampere.

This achievement demonstrates the potential for existing fiber infrastructure to support increasing data demands driven by cloud services, streaming, and enterprise connectivity. The test was carried out on Elisa’s operational network, highlighting the readiness of the technology for real-world deployment.

According to Elisa, the trial paves the way for more efficient use of network resources and supports the ongoing digitalization efforts across Finland. For more details, visit Nokia’s official announcement.
